Pistons are reciprocating parts in the engine cylinder block. The basic structure of the piston can be divided into top, head and skirt. The top of the piston is the main part of the combustion chamber, and its shape is related to the selected combustion chamber form. There are often various pits on the top of diesel engine pistons, and their specific shape, location and size must be adapted to the requirements of diesel engine mixture formation and combustion.
The main function of the piston is to withstand the combustion pressure in the cylinder, which is transmitted to the crankshaft through the piston pin and the piston. Then, the piston, the cylinder head, and the cylinder wall form a combustion chamber.
Piston rings have different surface treatments due to their different positions. The outer surface of the first piston ring is usually chrome-plated or sprayed with molybdenum, mainly to improve lubrication and increase the wear resistance of the piston ring. Most other piston rings are tinned or phosphated, mainly to improve wear resistance. If the piston ring is improperly installed or the sealing is not good, it will cause the oil on the cylinder wall to go up to the combustion chamber and burn with the mixture, causing oil burning. If the matching clearance between the piston ring and the cylinder wall is too small or the piston ring is stuck in the ring groove due to carbon deposits, etc., when the piston reciprocates up and down, the cylinder wall is likely to be scratched. Deep grooves are formed on the wall, which is often referred to as the phenomenon of “cylinder pulling”. The cylinder wall has grooves and poor sealing performance, which will also cause oil burning. Therefore, the working condition of the piston should be checked regularly to avoid the occurrence of the above two situations and ensure that the engine is running in good condition.
Technical requirements
1. It must have sufficient strength, rigidity, small mass and light weight to ensure the minimum inertial force.
2. Good thermal conductivity, high temperature resistance, high pressure resistance, corrosion resistance, sufficient heat dissipation capacity, and small heating area.
3. There should be a small friction coefficient between the piston and the piston wall.
4. When the temperature changes, the size and shape change should be small, and the minimum gap between the cylinder wall and the cylinder wall should be maintained.
5. The coefficient of thermal expansion is small, the specific gravity is small, and it has good wear resistance and thermal strength.
