When the power switch is pressed, the host computer has no response. First observe and then use the minimum system method to solve the failure of the computer not starting. Judging from my actual maintenance experience, the computer cannot enter the desktop normally, except for hardware damage, most of which are caused by (looseness, dust, setting errors and software failures).
1. The “2-3″ pins of the CMOS jumper are short-circuited.
This kind of failure is more common, especially for the failure of the host computer cannot start normally, because there is no motherboard user manual, after multiple maintenance, the CMOS is set in the “2-3″ position, causing the host computer to fail to power on. Although this is a man-made fault, it is troublesome to check. If the judgment is incorrect, it will take a long time for the fault to be resolved and the motherboard is misjudged as a fault.
It is clearly stated in the manual of ASUS (P4X-PE) motherboard that if the CMOS jumper is removed or the “2-3″ pins are short-circuited, the host will not be able to start.
Remedy: Check carefully whether the CMOS jumper of the motherboard is normally set at the “1-2″ position. If the position of the CMOS pin cannot be correctly identified, we can observe whether there is a wide white line on the edge of the CMOS jumper. In general, the wire marked is the first pin.
Because there are many ways to clear CMOS information, such as DEBUG software clearing and battery discharge clearing, some motherboard manufacturers simply omit the setting of CMOS jumpers on the motherboard. For example, Gigabyte (8VM533) motherboards have only CMOS jumpers in place. Three solder joints.
Under normal circumstances, the motherboard CMOS jumpers are designed for 3-pin, “1-2″ is for normal use, and “2-3″ is shorted for 3-5 seconds to clear the CMOS information, but now the motherboard also has two-pin jumpers. For the two-pin jumper and the four-pin jumper, only the “2-3″ clear jumper is reserved. This is because the machine is still used when the CMOS jumper is empty, and the information can be stored normally. And because the four-pin is an old motherboard, it is impossible to determine the function of the fourth pin.
2. The gray wire P-OK pin of the power supply has no good signal output for normal power supply.
This kind of failure is caused by power failure. When we plug in the mains plug, there will be a popping sound of capacitor charging in the switching power supply. If the green and black wires are shorted, the power supply fan works, and the voltage output of each channel is normal. But when connected It just can’t start after the motherboard.
For this kind of failure, we can forcibly short the green and black wires after the power is connected to the motherboard to force the motherboard to power up and see if the host can start normally. If the power supply fan stops immediately after turning a few times, it means that the motherboard has a serious short-circuit fault. If the host can be powered on and started normally at this time, it means that there may be a problem with the power supply; if you have a good power supply, you can pass Replacement method to determine whether the specific reason for the failure to boot is the motherboard or the power supply.
3. A certain part of the motherboard or hard disk, optical drive, floppy drive, or a certain part of the front panel is short-circuited.
If there is a short circuit between the motherboard and the chassis, or the hard disk, optical drive, and floppy drive are short-circuited due to circuit failure, or the front and rear USB ports are short-circuited due to damage, it will cause the host to fail to power on due to protection.
For the troubleshooting of this fault, we can use the minimum system method. When a fault occurs when a certain peripheral is connected, it can be determined that the peripheral has a short-circuit fault.
4. When an external device has a fault or a peripheral device is powered on first, the host cannot be powered on.
This situation is not very noticeable. When some motherboards are started, if a U disk or other USB device is inserted into the USB interface; the parallel port is connected to a cutting plotter or programmer, and the serial port is connected to an external modem. At the same time, these peripherals When the power is turned on first, there will be no response from the host when it is turned on.
Such failures usually appear suddenly, before and after comparison, there will be new failures that only appear because of the addition of new peripherals, so we can isolate the peripheral first, and if the failure is eliminated, then the source of the failure can be determined. For most motherboards, when a mouse, U disk, or mobile hard disk is connected to the USB interface, there will often be failures that cannot start normally. These failures are sometimes related to the operating system, and the replacement of the operating system will solve the problem. For the failure of serial and parallel devices, We can try to change the switch machine sequence or adjust the CMOS settings to solve the problem.
5. The 220V mains plug of the host power supply is in poor contact or the power plug is disconnected.
Don’t underestimate this humble power cord, especially the DIY case, because the quality of the power cord is poor, and the mainframe cannot be powered on due to the disconnection of the power cord or the disconnection of the welding point when the power cord is often plugged in. Or because the plug is not standard It leads to poor contact with the switching power supply, failure to power on, or irregular automatic restart during use.
For the failure (exclude or use observation method or replacement method), by observing the relevant situation when the failure occurs, try to unplug and plug the power cord or mobile power cord at the same time, check whether the failure occurs, and finally use the replacement method to eliminate the failure.
